Vancouver broke out in protests yesterday after Justin Trudeau’s announcement approving the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline and Enbridge’s pipeline expansion from Alberta to the US.
The Trans Mountain pipeline will expand the current pipeline which cuts through the Burnaby Mountain and will dramatically increase tanker traffic in the Burrard Inlet.
Protesters say they feel like Trudeau threw them under the bus and they are willing to face arrest in their efforts to stop the project.
Mayor of Vancouver, Gregor Robertson, supports the protests and says he is profoundly disappointed with the decision and will continue to speak out against Kinder Morgan.
On the flip side… energy sector officials are happy with the approvals though Trudeau rejected the Northern Gateway pipeline.
