Jason Kenney is officially the Alberta Opposition leader at the provincial legislature after being sworn in yesterday.

Last month Kenney, who leads the United Conservative Party, won a byelection for the constituency of Calgary Lougheed after MLA Dave Rodney stepped down to allow him to run.

The former federal cabinet minister won the leadership of Alberta’s Progressive Conservatives in the beginning of 2017. Kenney successfully arranged a merger with the Opposition Wildrose and then won the vote to become the head of the party.

“In a few weeks time, when I take my seat and my place, it will be to act as leader of (the official Opposition) and I hope… to do so in a constructive fashion.”

He will take his seat in the legislature on March 8, 2018.
