The City of Calgary has decided to move forward with a bid for the 2026 Olympic Games. If approved the bid would cost about 20 million dollars, shared between the three levels of government. Funding has not been confirmed from the provincial and federal levels but Mayor Naheed Nenshi is confident the funding will come. Before a decision is made, the city may issue a plebiscite to allow Calgarians to weigh in on the decision, but the city only has six more months left to get the bid ready. The Olympic Committee reviews all bids starting in September, the winning city will be announced September of 2019.
