Canada’s two largest movie theater chains, Cineplex and Landmark have closed all locations across the country in response to COVID-19.
In a statement Landmark said that in response to the escalating situation they have chosen to close their theaters for the well-being of their staff and guests.
“The time has come for us to do more.”
Cineplex CEO, Ellis Jacob echoed similar sentiments, “The health and safety of our employees and guests is paramount. The time has come for us to do more.”
The decision to close down is following the delay of several high profile movies such as, Wonder Woman 1984, No Time To Die, Mulan, Black Widow and A Quiet Place Part II.
Employees from both companies have been temporarily laid off.
