Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is looking into passing additional legislative measures to amp up Canada’s fight against COVID-19. These measures would include changes to employment insurance and potentially activating aspects of the federal emergencies act.

Trudeau said that further steps need to be taken. Evoking the Emergencies act and declaring a national health emergency would give them considerable power in order to lead a nationwide response. Trudeau said some economic pieces will need to be put in place in order to support Canadians. The liberals are examining if there is a possibility to only activate certain emergency protocols so they don’t have to declare a state of emergency.
