A Group of Oil Sand Operators are Looking for Ways to Make CO2 Emissions Useful

On Oct. 18, 2016, Canada’s Oil Sand Innovation Alliance held it’s fourth annual performance update, and the main discussion fell onto carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

Key-note speaker Dr. Paul Bunje is trying to reshape the view of CO2, and explained how it could be converted into many different types of materials and products.

“Why can’t we turn CO2 from a waste, to an asset?”Asked Bunje.

To help advance the idea a $20 million competition with teams from eight countries are focusing on who can convert the most CO2 from a power plant, to products that have the highest net value.
